Find out how dental implants can restore your smile after tooth loss.

Don’t let tooth loss have the final say when it comes to the health and appearance of your smile. Our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, restorative Elderly Couple With Dental Implantsdentist Dr. John Stockdale offers an amazing solution that both looks and functions just like a real tooth. This tooth replacement is known as a dental implant. Here’s how it works,

Placing the Implant

The implant itself is a small metal screw or post that is inserted into the jawbone where it will serve to replace your missing tooth’s roots. This surgery is minor and can be performed in about 30 minutes under the effects of local anesthesia. Before placing the implant our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, will map out precisely where the implant will need to be placed.

Healing and Osseointegration

Getting dental implants takes time, and some of that time involves allowing your body to heal itself and naturally fuse the implant and jawbone together. This natural fusion is called osseointegration. Once this occurs (over the course of 3-6 months) the screw is now a permanent part of the jawbone. With the proper care, implants offer a very high success rate and can last several decades.

Securing the Abutment

Depending on the type of implant that is placed, you may need to come in for another minor procedure so that we can attach a part known as an abutment to the top of the implant. The abutment is meant to connect the implant, which is under the gums and isn’t visible, with the false tooth (the visible component of the implant). In order to place the abutment a small incision will be made in the gums to reveal the top of the implant before securing the abutment on top.

Fitting the False Tooth

The last step is for our dentist to cement the dental crown onto the top of the abutment. The crown will be custom made based off measurements we will take of your mouth. Of course, if you are missing several teeth then we will place 2-4 implants along the arches of the jawbone to support multiple false teeth.

Are you interested in finding out how porcelain veneers could transform your smile?

As much as we might not like it, appearances are important. It doesn’t seem all that hard to believe when you imagine just how many veneerstimes you show your smile to those around you: When you smile and wave at your neighbors. When you greet the cashier at the checkout counter. When you say goodbye to your coworkers or boss. When you pick up your kids from school. So, don’t you want to have the ideal smile to show off? We know you do! That’s why our Rancho Cucamonga, CA cosmetic dentist Dr. John Stockdale is happy to offer dental veneers.

The dental veneers you’ll get in Rancho Cucamonga are thin but durable shells made from porcelain. This porcelain shell is added to the front of your teeth once they have been prepared for these restorations. Dental veneers can easily hide these common dental flaws:

  • Chips and cracks
  • Discolorations
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Worn and uneven teeth
  • Minor overlapping or crooked teeth
  • Misshapen or malformed tooth

Patients often worry that these porcelain veneers will look fake, but rest assured these high-quality translucent layers are designed to mimic real teeth. The only person who will know you have veneers is you. Get veneers to change the color, shape or size of a tooth or teeth and get the smile you’ve always wanted.

In order to prepare your smile, we will need to file down some enamel from your teeth. Unlike crowns, we don’t have to remove as much enamel from your teeth (usually no more than 0.5 millimeters).

Once the veneers are individually crafted and then bonded to the front of your teeth they are designed to last up to 15 to 20 years before needing to be replaced. No special care is required, just treat your restorations like you would the rest of your smile when it comes to brushing and flossing and routine professional cleanings and you’ll have beautiful restorations for years to come.

Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA is ready to give you the smile you know you deserve. If you want to find out whether you are a good candidate for veneers then it’s time you called our office today to schedule your consultation.
