Treasure your oral health by taking care of your teeth and gums. At Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, your dentist, Dr. John Stockdale receives numerous questions about proper oral hygiene. You can develop and maintain a good routine with his help.
What's the most important aspect of oral hygiene?
It's day-to-day care--brushing, flossing, diet, and just plain looking at your teeth and gums to observe any changes. The American Dental Association (ADA) urges children through senior adults to brush twice a day and floss daily to remove harmful plaque.
Be sure to use a quality, fluoride toothpaste and flossing product you prefer. Take your time when you brush and floss--at least two minutes when you brush and as long as necessary when you floss. Your diligence will be obvious to your hygienist at your next routine appointment at Renaissance Dental Care, and as years go on, you'll experience far fewer cavities and problems with your gums.
Also, six-month check-ups and hygienic cleanings take your at-home habits a step further, putting professional eyes and hands on your preventive, restorative and cosmetic dental needs and goals. Together, you and your Rancho Cucamonga dentist can protect your oral health for years to come.
What else can you add to your routine?
Here are several things you may not even think of, but Dr. Stockdale knows how critical they are to your oral health:
- Look at your teeth and gums. Note any changes in gum or tooth color or if a filling appears damaged in any way. Report a sore which does not heal quickly or any kind of dental pain to your dentist right away. The quicker you receive treatment, the less complicated it will be.
- Replace your toothbrush every two to three months or any time it looks frayed or worn. You need the right tools for effective oral care. Also, change the brush after having the flu, cold or sinus infection.
- Consume several glasses of fluoridated water every day. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, and the water is a natural tooth washer and stimulates saliva, too.
- Drink alcohol responsibly.
- Stop smoking. It's a difficult habit to break, but your primary care physician can help you succeed.
Maximize your oral health
It's in your power to do so. Common sense and partnership with your friends at Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, are keys to a healthy smile and a healthy you. Call for your routine cleaning and exam with Dr. John Stockdale: (909) 987-0040.
