Dr. John Stockdale of Renaissance Dental Care is here to help when you need dental implants in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Dental implants can completely replace missing teeth to keep your smile beautiful and your mouth healthy! Keep reading about the benefits of this method of tooth replacement, and call us if you have missing teeth.

Implants are strong

Dental implants are made from a screw-like titanium post that is implanted in your jaw bone with minor surgery. You then heal for a period of weeks while a process called osseointegration takes place. Your jaw bone heals around and fuses to the implant, giving it strength. A ceramic crown sits on top of the implant to replace the tooth. Together they are a strong and beautiful tooth replacement.

Implants keep your mouth healthy

When you have a missing tooth it doesn't just leave an unsightly gap in your smile, it can cause problems with chewing and speaking. If you don't replace missing teeth, over time other teeth in the area will shift. This can change your bite and damage your other teeth, and you'll need more dental work. Invest in dental implants now for a long-lasting solution that keeps your whole mouth healthy.

Implants match your smile beautifully

During the initial healing period, you may wear a temporary tooth cap. This may not match your smile perfectly but is only temporary while you heal. Once the implant has healed, your permanent crown is placed at a final appointment. This has been custom-made to match your smile and looks beautiful.

Easy to care for

When you have dental implants you should maintain a great oral hygiene routine at home and schedule regular dental visits, but there is no special care required to keep implants looking great. Your dentist will recommend brushing for two minutes twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Schedule professional teeth cleaning appointments twice a year so you have regular exams, too. If you grind your teeth at night, your dentist will recommend wearing a nightguard to protect the crown from damage.

Over the last few years, dental implants have become a regular part of most dental practices, and it's easy to see why. They attractively and permanently replace a missing natural tooth in its entirety, making life easier for both dentists and patients. At Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Dr. John Stockdale regularly recommends dental implants for his patients. Here are a few reasons why:

You've lost a permanent tooth.

Most American adults are missing at least one permanent tooth by the time they're 30 years old. Although it's common, it's something that needs to be remedied by your Rancho Cucamonga dentist as soon as possible. It's important to replace any missing teeth with dental implants as soon as you can in order to prevent deterioration of the jawbone and shifting of the remaining natural teeth.

You need a tooth extracted.

If an accident has occurred or a previous dental restoration (such as a root canal) has failed, your Rancho Cucamonga dentist might need to extract, or pull, the affected tooth. Filling that empty space with a dental implant is highly recommended in order to keep the rest of your teeth healthy. In some cases, the post of an implant can be placed the same day as the tooth is extracted; X-rays will determine if you're a candidate.

You need dentures.

You heard right: if you need dentures, but don't want to deal with the hassle of removing them, implant-supported dentures could be in your future. Instead of relying on denture paste and suction, both the upper and lower denture plates can be attached to a series of implants - typically four on each - and held in firmly in place. Talk to Dr. Stockdale to find out if this type of denture solution is right for you.

Find out how dental implants can restore your smile after tooth loss.

Don’t let tooth loss have the final say when it comes to the health and appearance of your smile. Our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, restorative Elderly Couple With Dental Implantsdentist Dr. John Stockdale offers an amazing solution that both looks and functions just like a real tooth. This tooth replacement is known as a dental implant. Here’s how it works,

Placing the Implant

The implant itself is a small metal screw or post that is inserted into the jawbone where it will serve to replace your missing tooth’s roots. This surgery is minor and can be performed in about 30 minutes under the effects of local anesthesia. Before placing the implant our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, will map out precisely where the implant will need to be placed.

Healing and Osseointegration

Getting dental implants takes time, and some of that time involves allowing your body to heal itself and naturally fuse the implant and jawbone together. This natural fusion is called osseointegration. Once this occurs (over the course of 3-6 months) the screw is now a permanent part of the jawbone. With the proper care, implants offer a very high success rate and can last several decades.

Securing the Abutment

Depending on the type of implant that is placed, you may need to come in for another minor procedure so that we can attach a part known as an abutment to the top of the implant. The abutment is meant to connect the implant, which is under the gums and isn’t visible, with the false tooth (the visible component of the implant). In order to place the abutment a small incision will be made in the gums to reveal the top of the implant before securing the abutment on top.

Fitting the False Tooth

The last step is for our dentist to cement the dental crown onto the top of the abutment. The crown will be custom made based off measurements we will take of your mouth. Of course, if you are missing several teeth then we will place 2-4 implants along the arches of the jawbone to support multiple false teeth.

Renaissance Dental Care wants to make sure that you get the proper restorative dentistry you need after tooth loss. Call our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, dental office today to schedule a consultation with us.

Dental implants are a versatile dental treatment that can replace one or more missing teeth. Implants stand alone and, unlike a traditional tooth replacement option, do not require the help of surrounding healthy teeth to stay in place. Choosing a dental implant can change your life for the better, but learning about this procedure is an important aspect of choosing the best treatment plan for you. Learn more about dental implants with Dr. John Stockdale at Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Parts of a Dental Implant

Dental implants have three main parts:

  • Implant fixture: The fixture is the component of the implant which fits into the jawbone below your missing tooth. During the healing process, the bone grows around the fixture to hold it securely in place, creating a sturdy foundation for the replacement tooth.
  • Prosthetic tooth: Made from porcelain and color-matched to your existing natural teeth, the prosthetic tooth will feel, function, and appear just as a real one. Porcelain’s light-reflecting qualities closely mimic tooth enamel to give you the most lifelike look possible.
  • Abutment: The abutment connects the implant to the prosthetic tooth and ensures that your implant prosthetic can be maintained or replaced if necessary. The abutment fits into the fixture and the prosthetic tooth fits over the abutment to complete the implant.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants’ versatile nature can achieve various tasks, including:

  • Replace a single tooth: Replacing a single tooth uses one dental implant fixture which stands on its own in the socket of the missing tooth. The prosthetic attaches to the fixture via the abutment to fill in the gap.
  • Replace multiple teeth: If you have two or more teeth missing in a row, a dental bridge-like prosthetic with several porcelain teeth in a row fills the gap. Two implants on either end hold the restoration in place.
  • Attach an implant-supported denture: Implant-supported dentures are a permanent and non-removable alternative to traditional dentures. This tooth replacement option is held in place by four or more dental implants and replaces all the teeth on an arch.

Have you been thinking about replacing your missing teeth? Innovative dental implants feel more like your natural teeth than any other denal implantsrestoration option. Our Rancho Cucamonga, CA, dentist, Dr. John Stockdale, explains how your smile can benefit from implants.

What makes dental implants more comfortable?

Only the visible part of your tooth is replaced when you opt for a bridge or dentures, but dental implants replace both the root and the crown of a missing tooth. Implants are synthetic roots made from titanium, a lightweight metal that's also used in hip replacements. The titanium posts are placed in your jawbone after a small opening is made during minor oral surgery.

One of the most interesting aspects of titanium is its ability to bond to bone. Thanks to this capability, your dental implant becomes a permanent part of your jawbone in just three to six months. Bonding is the most crucial step of the entire process because it ensures the stability of your replacement root. When your implant bonds completely, your tooth will feel completely natural and will never slip or move if you take a bite of pizza or steak.

What can I expect if I choose a dental implant?

The minor surgery needed to place your titanium post happens during your first implant appointment. Because the healing process takes a few months, you may receive a temporary tooth or bridge to fill the gap in your smile while you wait for bonding to occur. After your titanium post has fully bonded, an abutment, a screw that connects the implant to the crown, will be added. During this appointment, an impression of your mouth will be made that will be used to create your crown. You'll visit our Rancho Cucamonga office when the crown is ready for the final step of the implant process.

How do I take care of an implant?

Taking care of your implant is easy and only requires daily brushing and flossing. Flossing carefully around the base of the crown is particularly important because it can help you avoid an infection that may threaten the health of your implant. Fortunately, good oral hygiene will help you avoid this problem.
