Teeth restoration is a necessary process that helps to keep your oral health strong and protected for years to come. At Renaissance Dental Care, Dr. John Stockdale can perform many different procedures, including providing CEREC in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. But what exactly does this acronym mean, and how can it benefit you? Let's take a look into this topic to help you figure out what is happening.
What is This Substance?
This unique medical technology was invented recently to help improve oral health and dental appearance. It stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This process uses a strong ceramic material that matches the natural color of your teeth to repair cracks, breaks, and more.
It starts by using Computer-Aided Design or CAD technology that uses pictures based on your damaged tooth to restore your tooth. Taking no more than one hour from beginning to end, this restoration method is becoming a standard option for many people throughout California.
What are the Benefits of a Rancho Cucamonga, CA CEREC Treatment?
If you're interested in this treatment option, it is vital to understand its many benefits. Just a few reasons why dentists use this process include:
- Minimal Visitation Needs – Unlike many restoration methods, this option requires just one visit, meaning you can get in and out without a lot of wasted time.
- Increased Accuracy – The unique CAD-assisted design method helps to produce a very accurate restoration process for your dental needs.
- Improved Natural Appearance – This restoration method uses natural-looking filling materials that look as close to your regular tooth as possible.
- Long-Lasting Results – This restoration should last many years without any significant maintenance, providing you with more robust overall oral health.
These benefits make this care option a valuable option for many people. For example, if you want a long-lasting restoration that won't adversely affect your aesthetic appearance, you should seriously consider this treatment method.

Created in Germany over two decades ago, CEREC - which stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics - is an amazing technology offers a completely different approach to how porcelain dental restorations are made. Similar to a 3D printer, the CEREC unit carves out a perfectly shaped crown or inlay that has shown to be as durable - if not more so - than a lab-created restoration. Not all dentists offer this technology, but Dr. John Stockdale of Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, is proud to have CEREC available to his patients. Learn about its benefits here.
More comfortable
If you've ever had a clay impression taken of your teeth, you know that the paste is sticky and messy and the trays are bulky and uncomfortable. CEREC eliminates this process by using three-dimensional digital pictures of your teeth. One of our trained staff members will use a handheld wand to take several images of the area where your restoration will be placed. These images are then uploaded to the milling unit, where your restoration will be carved out of porcelain.
Better fit
Lab-created crowns often need fine-tuning before they can accurately fit into the space where they're needed. Even with digital measurements, the ceramic is still often too wide or long to fit properly. With CEREC, there's no need for your Rancho Cucamonga dentist to file, reshape, and refit your restoration because the machine can mill down to an accuracy of 7.5 microns. To put that in perspective, one of your hairs is about 200 microns wide.
Time saving
With CEREC, there's no need to have an ill-fitting temporary crown for a few weeks, only to return to your dentist's office again for the placement of your permanent restoration. Your procedure, measurements, and creation of the final restoration that finishes it can be done in just one appointment!

Could same-day crowns be the right dental work to preserve your damaged tooth?
If you’ve ever needed to get a dental crown before you may remember that after coming in for a routine checkup, where your Rancho Cucamonga dentist Dr. John Stockdale discovered a damaged tooth, you would have to come back to prepare the tooth and remove enough enamel for the crown.
In the meantime, the crown would need at least a week to be custom-made to fit over your tooth. During that time, you would be given a less-than-durable temporary crown. The process sounds a bit exhausting. But with CEREC same-day crowns… Not anymore!
What are CEREC crowns?
CEREC crowns look no different than traditional crowns and are still used to restore a tooth back to its normal shape, strength, size or aesthetics. The only difference is that CEREC crowns can be made in just one dental visit. Better yet, they can be made while you sit right here in our dental chair.
What makes a single visit possible is that CEREC crowns are made from a solid block of either ceramic or resin through our in-office CAD/CAM technology.
How does it all work?
When you come in for your dental crown we will first prepare the tooth by removing enough enamel to make room for the crown. Then we will take impressions of your teeth. With traditional crowns you may remember those messy, putty-like impressions that we needed to take, but now we can snap a few images of your teeth and have the images uploaded to our computer instantly.
Once the images are uploaded your Rancho Cucamonga general dentist will then use the CAD software to create a precise-fit crown. Once complete the CAM technology will mill the crown from a single block of material. And the best part is you can get your new restoration in about an hour!
