The Benefits Of CEREC Restorations
Created in Germany over two decades ago, CEREC - which stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics - is an amazing technology offers a completely different approach to how porcelain dental restorations are made. Similar to a 3D printer, the CEREC unit carves out a perfectly shaped crown or inlay that has shown to be as durable - if not more so - than a lab-created restoration. Not all dentists offer this technology, but Dr. John Stockdale of Renaissance Dental Care in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, is proud to have CEREC available to his patients. Learn about its benefits here.
More comfortable
If you've ever had a clay impression taken of your teeth, you know that the paste is sticky and messy and the trays are bulky and uncomfortable. CEREC eliminates this process by using three-dimensional digital pictures of your teeth. One of our trained staff members will use a handheld wand to take several images of the area where your restoration will be placed. These images are then uploaded to the milling unit, where your restoration will be carved out of porcelain.
Better fit
Lab-created crowns often need fine-tuning before they can accurately fit into the space where they're needed. Even with digital measurements, the ceramic is still often too wide or long to fit properly. With CEREC, there's no need for your Rancho Cucamonga dentist to file, reshape, and refit your restoration because the machine can mill down to an accuracy of 7.5 microns. To put that in perspective, one of your hairs is about 200 microns wide.
Time saving
With CEREC, there's no need to have an ill-fitting temporary crown for a few weeks, only to return to your dentist's office again for the placement of your permanent restoration. Your procedure, measurements, and creation of the final restoration that finishes it can be done in just one appointment!
